Dr. Dan Gubler

Ph.D. | Chief Scientific Officer

Dr. Dan Gubler, Ph.D., is a Caltech-trained natural-product chemist and former professor who has traveled to every continent discovering and researching bioactive compounds in plants and using them to help others. An expert on how natural molecules from plants can dramatically improve human health, Dr. Gubler has 16 patents granted or pending and has developed 70 nutritional supplements that gross $500 million in annual sales.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Gubler has been recognized with the DSA Visionary Award, the Schering-Plough Science and Innovation Award, the American Cancer Society Fellowship, the Eli Lilly Fellowship, and the Best Educator Award from Brigham Young University–Hawaii. He has also been inducted into the London Speaker Bureau and has spoken at over 150 events in 40 countries to audiences as large as 60,000. In addition, Dr. Gubler is the founder and host of “Discover with Dr. Dan: The Proactive Health Podcast,” which is ranked among the top 50 nutrition podcasts in the world. He holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Colorado State University as well as a B.Sc. in biochemistry from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Stephen R. Sabo

MD | Three Scientific Advisory Board Member

Dr. Stephen R. Sabo is currently an Attending Emergency Physician in the Emergency Department at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Suffern, NY, where he also teaches as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. He has spent time as reviewer for the American Board of Internal Medicine Examination, as well as Commissioner for the Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission in Bergen County, New Jersey. Dr. Sabo has also served as the Vice President and President of the Upper Saddle River Board of Health in New Jersey.

Dr. Sabo graduated in medicine at the Chicago Medical School, but also spent time studying in Lille, France, at the Faculte Libre de Medecine. His postgraduate study took him to the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York where he completed his residency in Emergency Medicine. In addition, he completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Prior to studying medicine, Dr. Sabo earned his Bachelor of Arts from Brandeis University in Waltham, MA.

Dr. Lana Louie A. Wania-Galicia

MD | Three Scientific Advisory Board Member

Dr. Lana Louie A. Wania-Galicia is currently the Chief Medical Officer at the Arroyo Vista Advanced Pain Specialists, Inc. in Moorpark, CA., as well as a Pain Management Consultant for the Conejo Pain Medical Group located in Thousand Oaks, CA. Dr. Wania-Galicia has received numerous awards for her work and service. These include the “Excellence in Medicine and Outreach” award from the Filipino American Association of Southern California, the “Most Outstanding Filipino American in the USA” award from the Philippine Children’s Charities, and the “Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year” award from UC Davis Pain Center, which she has won twice. Her extensive research has been published in several medical journals, and her expertise has been used by a host of organizations that have had her present and lecture to other healthcare professionals around the country.

Dr. Wania-Galicia earned her Doctor of Medicine, as well as her Bachelor of Science in Biology, at the University of Santo Tomas in her native Phillipines.

Dr. James B. Baker

DO, FACOI | Three Scientific Advisory Board Member

In addition to his current roles at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital as President of Medical Executive Staff & Co-Medical Director, Dr. James Baker is a member of the Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Board of Directors, serves as a staff physician at Circle of Life Hospice, and manages his MDVIP-affiliated practice. A member of several medical societies including the American Osteopathic Medical Association and the American College of Osteopathic Internists, Dr. Baker served as President of the Arkansas Osteopathic Medical Association prior to these appointments. With a background as an analytical chemist, he has also been enlisted by numerous pharmaceutical companies to present on his areas of expertise.

Dr. Baker earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University–College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Tulsa, OK. Prior to that, Dr. Baker obtained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Henderson State University in Arkansas.

Dr. Timothy Schneider

MD | Three Scientific Advisory Board Member

Dr. Timothy Schneider was the ninth American ophthalmic surgeon to perform LASIK and has performed over 20,000 laser vision correction procedures and cataract surgeries. A former chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Refractive Surgery Specialty Information Team, Dr. Schneider has written over 17 book chapters and articles published in peer reviewed journals and has lectured at over 25 meetings nationally and internationally. Always on the cutting edge of new technologies making cataract surgery safer and better, he is a sub-specialist in laser vision correction, cataract surgery, and glaucoma.

Dr. Schneider attended the Mayo Medical School at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and has received Fellowship certification by the American Academy of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.

Dr. Jessica Bordon

Dr. Jessica Bordon is a practicing podiatrist specializing in prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of foot and ankle ailments. A member of both the American Podiatric Medical Association and the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons, Dr. Bordon particularly enjoys treating sports medicine injuries and has a passion for improving people’s overall health and well-being. Her desire is to be able to offer a variety of services to her patients that will help them become pain free, lose weight, feel great, and achieve optimal health. The recipient of the 2020 Award for Top Podiatrist in New Braunfels, Texas, Dr. Bordon has established a reputation in her community for her expert knowledge of the highest quality products and services in natural care and is regularly consulted by medical and health & wellness professionals.

Dr. Naoko Yoshimura enjoys enhancing people’s natural ability to heal through traditional and alternative medicine. A graduate of Kochi Medical School in Kochi Prefecture, on the island of Shikoku, Japan, Dr. Yoshimura served in the school’s Department of Radiology before obtaining her doctorate in medicine in 1997. She has practiced internal medicine and rehabilitation at Atago Hospital, Tonan Hospital, and Hisa Hospital, where she served as a member of the Nutrition Support Team. Why did you choose a career in medicine?
“I always looked up to my father, a thoracic surgeon and my role model. There was never a doubt I was going to medical school.”

What drew you to Emergency Medicine in particular?
“Some of my friends thought I went into Emergency Medicine to fit my career into my schedule of attending pro sports games. (I had tickets to most NY sports teams.) In reality, I liked the fast pace and the fact that I was able to take care of patients in all areas of medicine.”

What are you most proud of when you think about your career as a doctor?
“I’m most proud of all the people I’ve been able to help over the past 25 years. We work as a team in the ER, and I’m very proud of how our team comes together especially when a sick patient arrives.”

What skill(s) are you still striving to perfect in your profession?
“I continue to strive for honesty and compassion in my practice. I am honest with patients, and if I don’t know the answer, I will say so and recommend a way to help them find the answer. Most importantly, I continue to have a caring attitude with patients and families.”

Why are liposomes such a difference maker?

Outside of medicine and Three, what hobby or cause are you very passionate about?

“Fitting in with my sports interests, I would have been a sports announcer if I wasn’t a doctor. I used to do impersonations of famous sports announcers.”

What advice do you give people about maintaining their health?
“In my opinion the key to good health is good nutrition. It’s about eating healthy most of the time. Our family eats organic, gluten free, dairy free and sugar free foods most of the time. Think of it as a healthy lifestyle where you also treat yourself from time to time.”

Why did you choose a career in medicine?
“Since I was five years old, I wanted to become a physician, as I was surrounded by cousins who are physicians. Making a difference in the lives of many was very attractive to me. There’s no greater joy than the one I feel when I help a very sick patient attain or restore good health and well-being.”

What drew you to specialize in pain medicine in particular?
“Undertreatment of pain in my country is an epidemic. That became very evident to me when my grandmother, whom I love so much and who helped my parents raise me, sustained a hip fracture from a fall. I saw her suffer through the pain and, unfortunately, pass away from complications. I promised myself through God’s grace that I would pursue a specialty that takes care of patients in pain.”

What are you most proud of when you think about your career as a doctor?
“Every life I’ve touched, every case I’ve handled, every injection I have done, and every opportunity I’ve had to listen to and interact with my patients—for them to trust me with their healthcare needs is what I am most thankful for and most proud of.”

What goals are you still striving for in your profession?
“My goals are to educate and encourage colleagues in this field to understand the importance of complementary and alternative medicine, such as nutrition and nutraceuticals, in the overall management of pain and diseases and the maintenance of health and well-being. I also want to extend this education into academia because those physicians in training need to have a foundational knowledge of nutrition and this budding branch of medicine—functional, integrative, and complementary medicine.”

Why are you passionate about Three?

“I love music. In fact, it was my first love before medicine. I find joy in singing and playing musical instruments such as the piano, guitar, and the drums. I’m very passionate about my medical and surgical mission work through my community, Couples for Christ’s action arm Answering the Cry of the Poor to different parts of the world serving the marginalized members of society.”

If you didn’t choose medicine, what alternative career path would you have chosen?
“I would like to be in the music industry, primarily creating melodies and composing songs.”

“Health is wealth. Be informed. Listen to your body; it will dictate what you should or shouldn’t be doing. Preventative medicine is the key to optimal health and wellness.”

Introduction
Known simply as “Doc” to his friends growing up, Dr. James Baker seemed destined for the career he’s now enjoying. In fact, he says he always wanted to be in a position to help others and truly felt called to do this work since the age of five. “I never wondered what I would be growing up like other kids did,” Dr. Baker says. “I always knew I was born to be a doctor.”

We recently caught up with Dr. Baker, who serves as President of Medical Executive Staff & Co-Medical Director at the Northwest Arkansas Rehabilitation Hospital and as a member of the Three Scientific Advisory Board, to learn more about what drives him and his passion for Three. Here is what we learned…

Why osteopathic medicine?
“While in medical school, I thought I wanted to be a pediatrician; and because I was ranked first in my class, I had the privilege of training at some of the best pediatric facilities in the country. However, I witnessed many especially difficult things in that setting. As a result, I elected to do internal medicine instead. A friend in college told me how pleased he was with the osteopathic medical school he was attending. So when I interviewed, I knew this was where I needed to be. They teach a holistic approach along with preventative medicine.”

What are you most proud of when you think about your career as a doctor?
“I’m most proud of the close relationships I’ve developed over the years with my patients. People can share their deepest needs with me, and they trust that I will give them the best advice I possibly can.”

What accomplishment/goal are you still striving for in your profession?
“I want to continue to speak into people’s lives in a helpful and compassionate way. That someday I can hear God say, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant.’”

Why are you passionate about Three?
“Because of the many wonderful friends and relationships that will be with us lifelong. My wife, Alisa, and I love seeing the positive changes in people’s lives and are honored and privileged to have the opportunity to share this with so many. We are firm believers in paying it forward and want very much to impact people’s lives—not just physically, but financially, spiritually, and socially as well.”

Why are liposomes such a difference maker?
“People often think that putting good nutrition into the body is all that’s necessary. If it were that simple, we’d all be doing it. Absorption really is the name of the game. Unless you can get the nutrition in a form your body can absorb, it is useless. Liposomes make this absorption possible.”

What hobby or causes are you very passionate about?
“I love to travel with my wife experiencing new and exciting places. I am an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and have followed our local sports teams for many, many years. In addition, I have been integrally involved in the new state-of-the-art medical school just an hour south of us. It has been exciting for me to see these new medical developments and having the chance to speak into the lives of the next generation of physicians.”

If you didn’t choose medicine, what career path would you have chosen?
“I haven’t thought much about that, but I would probably like to teach at the college level or in a medical school. And if that doesn’t work out, I can always be a country western singer…NOT!“

What advice do you give people about maintaining their health?
“1. Exercise regularly.
2. Get at least seven hours of sleep per night.
3. Do something for others each day.
4. Find healthy ways to manage your stress.
5. Maintain a healthy and continuous prayer life.
And I agree with Dr. Schneider…more sex!”

Introduction
The youngest of three children and a Christian pastor’s son, Dr. Timothy Schneider’s mother was diagnosed with cancer when Dr. Schneider was just two years old. “Throughout my childhood, we children were farmed out to various families and relatives as my mother received multiple surgeries and radiation at Mayo Clinic,” he recalls. “Fortunately, my mother lived until I was 22 years old, which was remarkable survival for those days.” In the eighth grade, Schneider took an interest in health, wellness, and prevention seeking to avoid what his mother went through. “Back then, it was Adelle Davis, Euell Gibbons, and the Mother Earth News that promoted the ‘grow-your-own’ trend for health and self-sufficiency,” he says. “My family doctor was the coolest and kindest person I knew as a child, so that is how I ended up wanting to be a doctor.” We recently caught up with Dr. Schneider, a former chairman of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Refractive Surgery Specialty Information Team and current member of the Three Scientific Advisory Board, to learn more about what drives him and his passion for Three. Here is what we learned…

Why ophthalmology?
“Ophthalmology is a specialty in which I can help restore vision when someone is suffering from cataracts, glaucoma, or refractive errors. The technology I utilize every day with lasers, ultrasound, and almost-sci-fi diagnostic equipment makes my profession undoubtedly the best in all of medicine. It’s a fantastic feeling each time I am rewarded with a happy patient with 20/20 vision. Ten years ago I entered a fellowship-training program in anti-aging and regenerative medicine called A4M. This gave me the opportunity to gain insight into health, wellness, and prevention that allowed me to complete my passion in this area that I started in eighth grade.”

What challenges do you face that keep you from being the most effective you can be in your job?
“Well, the good news is that fantastic technology continues to make it easier to diagnose and treat ophthalmic diseases. The bad news is that as healthcare resources become limited (Medicare), the use of these technologies becomes too expensive and, thus, many of my patients are unable to enjoy the fruits of this technology.”

What opportunities do you see arising that will help you be more efficient as a medical professional?
“I am more interested in becoming more compassionate as a medical professional even though society says it’s all about efficiency.”

In what ways does nutritional technology play a role in your career?
“My passion for teaching health and wellness to my patients took a hiatus until I was introduced to Three and liposomal technology. At that moment, the door opened to many ‘what-ifs’ because we can achieve meaningful delivery of nutrients never achieved before.”

Do you foresee nutritional technologies playing an even greater role in the field of medicine?

The products are great as are the financial opportunities, but what life really comes down to is our relationships. That is really the only thing that matters, whether that relationship is with God, your family, or your co-workers.
